Before beginning, confirm critical project details:
- Toilets being installed have a supported overflow pipe configuration or air intake solution
- Determine the best location for the central Sniffer pump cluster and that an electrical outlet is available nearby
- Determine the air exhaust option that will be used
Review our Whole Home Installation Guide for additional information
STEP 1: Select the required pump cluster kit
Order the pump cluster kit that matches the number of toilets to be vented.
For larger homes, especially those with more than one mechanical room, it may be better to have more than one pump cluster location.
If more than 4 pumps are required, split pumps between multiple pump cluster combinations (eg. 5=2+3, 6=3+3, 7=3+4)

STEP 2: Select an air intake method that works with your toilet
Pump cluster kits come with a simple tubing holder clip that provides acceptable performance and will work with standard overflow pipe and dual flush button toilets.
We recommend this option whenever possible to eliminate the need for future adjustment and to simplify future toilet maintenance.
For increased air flow, KOHLER canister and other non-standard toilet flush valves, select the appropriate air intake shroud design and add-to-cart in the required quantity.

STEP 3: Select an exhaust method
Each 1/2″ O.D. (3/8″ I.D.) exhaust tubing line can be used for venting (3) Sniffer pumps without backpressure affecting performance. Adding a 4th or 5th pump is acceptable if the likelihood of more than (3) pumps running at the same time is minimal, otherwise use additional exhaust connections to support additional pumps.
Pump cluster exhaust tubing lines may be vented directly through-wall to the building exterior.
3/8″ I.D. or 1/2″ I.D. PEX pipe may be used for a through-wall conduit.
– 3/8″ PEX – single connection – use 1/2″ straight push-to-connect fitting
– 1/2″ PEX – single connection – ream PEX with 1/2″ drill, insert 1/2″ O.D. tubing into PEX
– 1/2″ PEX – dual connection – use 12mm to 16mm push-to-connect wye fitting
For sanitary DWV pipe exhaust we recommend using (1) sanitary pipe exhaust fitting for each 1/2″ exhaust tubing line.
Other sanitary pipe connection methods are available. Please contact us if an alternate exhaust connection method is needed for your project.

Sanitary pipe exhaust connection kit for Potty Sniffer system pump clusters with 1/2" O.D. tubing for exhaust. Fits pipe diameters: 1-1/4″ (with reducing collar), 1-1/2″, up to 1-1/2 sch. 40 (with flex to fit).
STEP 4: Select a control method
Pump cluster kits come with our standard illuminated LED push button switch for each pump station which can be mounted on the rim of the toilet tank.
The system can also be triggered using a 12V motion sensor, which we offer as an option.
- We offer a standard PIR-8 motion sensor that can be used in conjunction with the button switch (which functions as a system ON indicator), or the button switch can be deleted for invisible operation.
- You can also choose to use your own custom sensor or automatic triggering solution using our Signal Relay ONLY option.
We also offer a plain button switch option for customer who prefer to wall mount the switch using a blank wall outlet plate or direct mounted to the toilet tank or lid for a factory installed look. The button switch fits a 22mm (7/8″) diameter hole cutout.

STEP 5: Order installation materials
Pump cluster kits come with 10′ (per pump) of 3/8″ O.D. flexible, antimicrobial, PVC tubing for terminations at the toilet and pump cluster. Kits also come with straight, reducer, and elbow push-to-connect connectors that will be needed for tubing runs.
Determine run lengths to each toilet from the pump cluster location.
Use 1/2″ O.D. LDPE tubing for main runs
Use 3/8″ O.D. LDPE tubing for vertical up sections
Leave 6″ tubing stick out at each toilet connection
We recommend using 18/6 solid, white thermostat control cable. (Min. requirement is 18/4)
Materials can be purchased to be delivered with our install kits.
To save on cost, we recommend purchasing materials directly from your local home improvement store:
